Government-Sponsored Overseas Medical Treatment
Approval for journeys outside Nigeria for medical treatment is given only by the Governor following assessment and recommendation of a constituted Medical Board, and is confined to the serious or diagnostic circumstances stated in the Rule. An officer treated as an out-patient is entitled to Estacode Allowance at the appropriate rate. A spouse and children who are very ill and cannot be cared for locally because of lack of expertise or equipment may receive overseas treatment at Government expense. Every application must be supported by a properly constituted Medical Board's report and submitted to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health by the sponsoring MDA; the Permanent Secretary recommends to the Governor, conveys approval to the applicant with copies to Finance, and Finance seeks permission to travel abroad from the Head of Service.
