Maternity Leave

Public Service Rules

Maternity leave is authorised absence of a serving female officer on account of pregnancy. For the first two deliveries, entitlement is 24 weeks with full pay, commencing at least two weeks before expected delivery. Third and subsequent deliveries attract 12 weeks. The required medical certificate must be presented not less than two months before expected confinement. Annual leave forms part of maternity leave; where already taken, the equivalent portion of maternity leave is without pay. A nursing mother is entitled to two hours off duty daily for up to six months from resumption after maternity leave.
