Medical Fitness Examinations During Service and Medical Leave
A Permanent Secretary/Head of Extra-Ministerial Department/Agency may at any time direct, or at the officer's request call on, an officer to appear for examination by an approved or Government Medical Practitioner or before a duly constituted Medical Board to ascertain capability for duty. An officer on leave of absence on medical grounds may similarly be required or permitted to undergo examination to determine fitness to return or appropriate redeployment. For examinations under Rules 080104 and 080105, Government ordinarily bears examination and specialist fees; the report is furnished to Government; communication to the officer is at the Medical Officer's discretion; the Government decision is to be communicated at the earliest possible date; and a dissatisfied officer may make representations, after which Government decides whether further medical evidence should be called for.
