Private Medical Treatment and Refund in Special Circumstances

Public Service Rules

A staff member who prefers treatment by a private practitioner instead of Government medical facilities bears the expenses incurred. Where, because of the state of health and absence of a Medical Officer, an officer or family member is compelled to use a private practitioner, the officer is initially responsible for the fees; if the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health recognises the circumstances as requiring such service, a refund may be authorised at rates considered fair and reasonable. Where prescribed drugs or medical investigations cannot be obtained from a Government Hospital, the officer may be reimbursed on application and production of the required receipt.
